Did you know that a large part of your clothing’s environmental impact happens after you’ve bought it? That’s right – during washing. With just a few mindful choices, you can keep your favourite pieces looking great and take better care of the planet.
1. Wash less often
Clothes don’t need to be washed after every wear. Airing them out is often enough – especially with items like jeans or knitwear.
2. Use lower temperatures
Washing at 30°C or even cold is usually perfectly effective – and uses up to 60% less energy than higher temperatures.
3. Choose eco-friendly detergents
Look for labels that say “biodegradable” or “eco-certified.” Avoid detergents with microplastics or heavy fragrances.
4. Skip the tumble dryer
Let your clothes air-dry. It’s cheaper, saves energy, and preserves the quality of the fabric.
5. Use a microplastic wash bag for synthetics
This prevents plastic fibres from entering the water system. A small habit that makes a big difference.
Small choices, big impact
Wash with care, and your clothes – and the planet –will thank you for it.
